Vintage Stitching partners with others to make this museum possible:
Annies Art Attic in Kingman, Az supports charities in our community by operating a beautiful thrift shop located in Northern Ave. Annie donated a Singer 66 circa 1924 and cabinet to our Vintage Stitching museum.
Machines I purchase, so they aren't destroyed, turned into yard art or sent to the trash and are in bad disrepair, both machine and cabinetry I turn to David Lindsey and his wife Janice. David is a true craftsman in restoration of these Vintage Ladies and their cabinets. While he states he is a hobbyist he is so knowledgeable and professional in bringing to life again Singer machines that have lost their luster over the years. The below two photos are of a typical Singer found in a thrift shop after being used and abused. The good thing about these Ladies of Steel is they continue to run no matter the abuse and if treated special can become as pretty as they once were.
Special thanks to all my friends and relatives who look for Singer machines for me. and sometimes go pick them up and keep them safe until I can get to them! Thanks to others like Sam in Kingman, Sue in Henderson and many others who discounted machines for me because they believed in my preservation of these vintage ladies! This museum is funded solely by me and it is free to those who have an interest. I encourage home schooled children, and small boy/girl scout troops to come see these machines, all of which are in working order, as well as visitors to Kingman passing through that want a little stop over.
Very rarely does a machine come into the museum in perfect condition. Most often I turn to David Lindsey to work on these. It is a labor of love to make these machines beautiful again and trust me when he is finished you won't know it came to us in this condition. This is a knee lift, no knobs on the front, needs new veneer and may need new electrical! A costly piece of equipment given to us for free but in sad need of tender loving care.
These Vintage Ladies are made of Steel and nothing can keep them down. They are work horses. However sometimes you receive the machine with a lot of missing parts. Everything needs to be gone through and repaired or replaced.
