Singer Model 12 - "Gilt and Mother of Pearl - 1874

This machine is the oldest in the Vintage Stitching Museum collection of Singer Vintage Ladies.  As you can see it came to us in total disrepair and David is lovingly restoring it.  The bed of the machine along with the belt cover is inlaid with Mother of Pearl, however the steel on the machine must be stabilized due to flaking.  It appears that it may have been left outside.  The base made from wood is in total shambles and will need replacing.  You can see it has a small drawer and originally had a cover which no longer exists.  My husband drove to Sun City to pick this up for me since I was out of town.  He is a true help mate, understanding the love I have for these machines!

This is a close up of the condition this machine was found in.  It is having a "SPA" treatment at the present!

In this photo you can see David has the machine apart and is working on it.  There are many moving parts to a Singer Vintage Lady

Note that this 1874 machine has a smaller treadle peddle and the "legs" are special to this machine.  This machine had been separated from its legs and had to be retrieved from the owner in order to make it fully functional.  Fortunately the owner had them and was willing to give them back!
