The cover on this machine is called a "Coffin Top" since it appears as a coffin was during that period of time. Many machines in the late 1800's had these tops to keep the machine dust and dirt free.
Also note the small pedal on this machine. I wear a size 6 shoe and basically the treadle peddle fits my one foot!

The decals left on this machine are carnations. It is a beautiful machine with what is termed a "Fiddle Base" as it looks like a fiddle! It is a Vibrating Shuttle 1 and the bobbin looks similar to a bullet. It is a pre model 27 VS2.
