I grew up with my Grandmother sewing on her Singer 15 and my Mother sewing on her Singer 127 Treadle. The click clack of the treadle going all day as Mom made all my clothes, matching dresses and shirts for my Dad and formals for Grandma who loved to go dancing! Time slipped away, Grandma passed away and then Mom at age 91 died. As my brother and I went through Mom's shed I found Grandma's Singer 15 and Peola her dress maker. I brought Mom's Egyptian themed treadle to Arizona and soon was born the idea to create a museum for these beautiful 1800 and 1900 machines still in working order. I've been collecting for a short time compared to many others and I didn't want to see these Vintage Ladies discarded. Recently I purchased two 1940's Featherweights which adds a new dimension to the museum along with a few later models for comparison, including my original 1971 turquoise colored machine!
I hope people in small groups will come to see these lovely machines. Sit a spell and tell me tales of how you started sewing! I now quilt quite a bit and love to sew various things including many Christmas gifts. I'm currently looking for old quilts to display in the museum too. It is truly a work in progress.
I grew up with Peola, my Grandmothers dressmaker, being used to make various clothing apparel. I wondered where she had gotten to, thought maybe she had disintegrated or been discarded but low and behold Peola was in the back of Mom's shed all covered up and in great condition. She is now ensconced in our Vintage Stitching sewing museum for all to see.
As you can see by the photo's Mom had a plethora of thimbles, needles and sock darners. She would never sew without her thimble and she had a few she treasured. We have many pin cushions and sewing supplies on display as well as machines and the interesting and different feet that came with them!
We accept donations and make purchases of Singer Vintage sewing machines. We DO NOT resell any of these machines. This business is the Vintage Stitching Museum, a FREE museum which is self funded by me. Vintage Stitching is also recognized as a Trade Name with the Arizona Secretary of State.
